About Department

The Department of English was established in 2010 and has been functioning with the inception of assisting the students to improve their language skills. The Department also runs various co-curricular and extra – curricular activities like Spoken English Classes, Oswald Literary Club and the drama club. Numerous interdepartmental competitions are also conducted to enhance and quench the literary thirst of the students. Both the UG and PG students along with the stalwarts of the department play a vital role in enhancing the language and communication skills. The PG Department of English in our college is characterised by a strong sense of collaboration and enthusiasm for our subject and our students. The members of the department have an excellent working relationship which is extended to the staff from the other departments also. The department’s main aim is to achieve the highest possible English standards for all students. We hope that the work they do in English is enjoyed and strive to ensure that our curriculum offers a rich and diverse range of learning experiences.

    Programme Objectives
     
  • Instill in students the utility of the English language via the study of literature and other contemporary forms of culture.

  • Graduate students who are capable of doing research, analysis, and critique of literary and cultural works from a variety of historical eras and genres in order to succeed in an academic environment, on the job, and in an increasingly complicated and interconnected world

  • Assist students in developing intellectual flexibility, creativity, and cultural literacy in order to participate in life-long learning.

  • Provide students with critical thinking skills essential to succeed in an academic setting, in the work, and in an increasingly complicated and connected society.
  • Programme Outcomes
     

    PO1 - Students will be able to understand how important concepts, values and themes exist in literary and cultural works may help students recognize and define how they influence culture and society now as well as inthe past.


    PO2 - Students will be able to write logically in a number of styles, such as essays, research papers, reflective writing, and secondary source critical reviews.


    PO3 - Students will be proficient in oral communication and writing.


    PO4 - Students will be able to read and analyze literary and cultural materials in a variety of genres using critical and theoretical methods.


    PO5 - Students will be acquainted with significant literary and cultural works in a wide range of historical, geographical, and cultural settings.
