On behalf of department of biotechnology, we conduct the weekly quiz series in the name of “Louis Pasteur Quiz Series”. In this series the department staffs allocate the students, and encourage them to conduct the quiz. Students also participate this series and got the awards. From this type of quiz series, the students was growth in their academic knowledge, leadership qualities, time management.

SOCIAL SERVICES ( VISIT AND CLEAN THE VILLAGE AND GIVE THE AWARENESS FOR THEM)

The department of biotechnology students along with the staff members visit the villages and clean the village and too create the awareness for the village peoples. Under the permission of the principal the students and the staff members adapt the one village and visit the village to spend the whole day and give the awareness to them for Swach Bharat. Our department students also participate the event and clean the full village.

PROPERLY FOLLOWING ENGLISH SPEAKING DAY, FORMALS DAY, ETC…

In our college we has follow formals day on every Monday and English speaking day on every Wednesday. In our department students follow strictly both days. On every Monday boys students came with neat formal pant and shirt with tie and girls students are wear neat sarees. On this process our department students follow the discipline on the proper manner. On every Wednesday our students follows one of the college rule English speaking day. Our biotech department staff incest the students to follow both the days. From this activities our students grow well with good professionalism with communications skills, this will help them to participate well in their placements.

CREATING SOCIAL AWARENESS (COVID AWARENESS, DENGU AWARENESS)

In our biotech department students along with staff members conduct the social awareness programme for Dengu and COVID-19. For dengu awareness programmes the department students create the models related to dengu awareness and exhibit the models and explained well. For COVID-19 the students create the videos and posters related to covid theme topic. And special prizes also distribute to the best event participators.

    MENTORSHIP

In our biotech department behalf of BIOURJA association we created the students mentorship. In every association programmes we recognize the students mentors with badges. We categorize the students like chairman, vice chairman, secretary, join secretary. The above positioned students have a student mentorship.

    NEWS LETTER

    2016-2017

    EDITOR’S TALK

We, the Staff and the students of Department of Biotechnology are immensely proud to bring out the first copy of Biourja news letter of our Department. It’s a longstanding desire to bring out a news letter from our department that would feature the achievements of our department and the latest innovations on science. We are sure that readers would appreciate our new venture. Your constructive criticism shall be mailed to us at ksgbiot@gmail.com.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Biotechnology started in the year 2002 with the goal of rendering Biotechnological education to aspiring students with an enthusiastic department flourished with modern equipments and instrumentation facilities. The Department has an excellent academic record, and it’s our honor to mould rank holders and for the past three years we secured 100% academic results. The students are extremely active in participating in all intercollegiate activities.

    OBJECTIVE

The Biotechnology programme aims is to educate an interdisciplinary group of students with backgrounds in biology, biophysics, chemistry, physics, engineering or materials science in the applied biological and chemical sciences of biotechnology for careers in academia, government and industry. The Program encourages students from multiple disciplines to experience research in close relation to biomedical engineering students, while working in the field of biotechnology.

The educational objectives of biotechnology are three fold.

  •   To prepare students for careers of constructive service to society in academia, government, industry and health related fields.

  •   To engage committed students in areas not experienced in their previous academic lives and to bring them to a baseline that will allow them to conduct translational research, from conceptual design through in vivo testing with an eye towards clinical implementation.

  •   To provide interdisciplinary research and educational opportunities to solve problems that will improve the quality of life for those suffering from health-related diseases and disorders.

  • STUDENT’S ACHIVEMENTS

  •   Aishwarya from III B .Sc Biotechnology was selected for “Handloom Fashion Show -2017” associated with makkal sevai maiyam, Coimbatore

  • INDUSTRIAL VISIT

  •   B.Sc biotechnology students along with two staff members Mr. M. Raghunath and Mrs K. Manimegalai visited GASS museum on 18.06.2016.

  • EXTENTION ACTIVITY

  •   All biotechnology students along with NSS team cleaned our college campus and the event was conducted on 08.06.2016 and it is been organized by NSS team, KSG college of arts and science Coimbatore. The main motive of this event is to give awareness on keeping our surrounding clean.

  • STAFF ACHIVEMENTS

  •   Our Biotechnology staff members presented paper in the international conference on developing advanced research and technology held at KSG college on feb 2017.

  •   Our Biotechnology staff members attended science academies lecture workshop on Glimpses og plant sciences in nirmala college for women in feb 2017.

  • WORKSHOPS AND SEMINAR

  •   Our Biotechnology staff members participated science academies lecture workshop impact of life sciences in 21 century in PSGR krishnammal college for women in dec 2016.

  • MEGA EVENTS

  •   Three days orientation program for first years was conducted on 21.06.2017,

  • FACTS ABOUT BIOTECHNOLOGY

  •   Humans shares about 98% of their genes with chimpanzees, 92% with mice, 76% with zebra fish, 51% with fruit flies, and 18% with E. coli bacteria.

  •   All the genetic information of living organisms are stored in combinations and sequences of just four molecules – Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine, and Thymine. Differing sequences make up the 24,000 genes found in the human genome.

  •   DNA fingerprinting can be used for paternity testing, identify criminals or exonerate falsely accused, even with the smallest amount of genetic material thanks to PCR. The 300th prisoner exonerated in the history of United States was due to DNA evidence that showed he was convicted in error.

  •   The genetic information of viruses can be DNA or RNA; single or double stranded; one molecule or in pieces.
